Over 30 and No Kids! Wheeeeee!
I'm so glad I found this community. Even though it's quiet, it's still a relief to know that there are others out there. |
I'm 34 and my wife just turned 30 and we are child-free if you don't include our dogs. We may not always be child free, but it just seems like the right choice for now and for a long time.
The funny part of it is that I'm an elementary school teacher and it seems sometimes people think that parenting and teaching go hand in hand. Maybe, but not for me. A lot of my fellow teachers are parents and their entire lives orbit around their kids. There is just so much stress added to their already stressful jobs because of their children. I'm sure there is joy in there, but that's not what I hear in the teacher's lounge.
The not so funny part is that if say we had a child in 2007, I may not live long enough to see my offspring into his/her adulthood. I am a brain tumor survivor and there's a significant chance of recurrence and so at this point in time it's hard to think of becoming an old man. I would hate to leave my wife alone to care for children.
There are other reasons of course, but those are the ones I'm broadcasting. It's not that we hate children, it's just that we like life without them.
Also looking for friends to add, my posts are mostly friends only, but I'm more than willing to add others.
